Rare Disease Report

What Illness Does Glenn Beck Have?

NOVEMBER 11, 2014
James Radke

Commentator Glenn Beck recently revealed that he has been suffering from a rare condition for the past several years that have left doctors perplexed. On his website, The Blaze, Mr. Beck noted that he had numerous bouts of phantom pain, dystonia, poor memory, and seizures.

In his broadcast, Mr. Beck said:

“We didn’t know at the time what was causing me to feel as though, out of nowhere, my hands and feet, or arms and legs would feel like someone had just crushed them, set them on fire or pushed broken glass into them.”

"Most afternoons my hands will start to shake or my hands and feet begin to curl up and I become in a fetal position," Mr. Beck said. "When it gets real bad my friends just kind of try to uncurl me."

Further in the broadcast, Mr. Beck said:

"It has baffled some of the best doctors in the world," adding,  "It has frightened me and my family as we didn't know what was happening."
Adding to the pain, Mr Beck developed macular dystrophy, vocal paralysis, and a sleeping disorder.

The Diagnosis

After moving from New York City to Dallas Texas, he went to the Carrick Brain Center where he was given a diagnosis.

“After a few short visits, they found that I had several things going on, from an autoimmune disorder to adrenal fatigue. They also found the connection to everything that was going on, and for the first time gave us hope that we could reboot my system — not just stop it, but reverse things.”

“My immune system was looking at these natural hormones as an infection and so my body was trying to kill its most basic functions. I also appeared at the time to be in the early stages of Addison’s disease.”

The Treatment

The Carrick Brain Center was also able to treat him. Mr. Beck said:

“Over the last ten months, I did all kinds of tests and therapies, which included everything from electric stimulation to weird gyroscope tests like the astronauts use where they’re flipping you around.”

“After months of treatment and completely changing the way I eat, sleep, work and live, along with ongoing hormone treatment and intensive physical therapy, I have reversed the process.”

The Exact Diagnosis?

It is never clear from Mr. Beck’s testimony or treatment what his exact condition is. If anyone would like to provide his or her suggestions, please contact jradke@raredr.com. You are the experts and we would appreciate your input. We hope to provide a list of the possible rare conditions that Mr. Beck may have in a future posting.
