JUNE 20, 2014
The current treatment for patients with familial chylomicronemia syndrome (FCS) is a very lowfat diet (≤15% by calories), in which patients consume less than 20 g to 25 g of fat per day. This can be very difficult to accomplish in today's society. In this interview with Rare Disease Report, Wahida karmally Dr.PH,RD,CDE,CLS of the Irving Institute for Clinical and Translational Research, Columbia University, New York City, explains that it is often helpful for clinicians to take more time to explain a low fat diet and to be realistic in describing meal plans.
