The Fibromuscular Dysplasia Image Bank

James Radke

Fibromuscular dysplasia (FMD) is a rare disease in which abnormal cell growth occurs in one or more arteries in the body - usually the carotid and/or renal arteries that require stents.

There are very few clinical trials for FMD, partially due to the fact that it is not well understood and partially because the diagnosis is heavily dependent on imaging. To help us better understand FMD, Javier Romero MD, of Massachusetts General Hospital, along with other clinicians and the Fibromuscular Dysplasia Society of America (FMDSA), have begun the work necessary to create an image bank for FMD.

As Dr Romero explains in this video, he is hopeful that the image bank will encourage companies to conduct clinical trials for this condition while at the same time, helping us better understand its pathophysiology and natural history.
