At the 49th Congress of the International Society of Paediatric Oncology held in Washington D.C., October 12-15,, Rare Disease Report spoke with David Freyer, DO, MS, Professor of Clinical Pediatrics and Medicine, Keck School of Medicine, University of California in Los Angeles, California, who gave an overview of cisplatin ototoxicity in children.
As Dr Freyer explains in this video clip, approximately half of children receiving cisplatin develop hearing loss.
Until recently, the only option was to accept that as a side effect of being cured of cancer, however, other options are now becoming available.
