APRIL 13, 2017

YouTube star Lizzie Velasquez is getting her own show on subscription video on-demand (SVOD) service, Fullscreen. Lizzie is one of two known people in the world with her undiagnosed rare congenital condition. Her body cannot accumulate body fat and she has not weighed over 60 pounds her entire life.

Her new show, Unzipped will feature Lizzie and panels of guests discussing fashion, body image, and — most importantly — how beauty standards have affected their lives. The series will explore what it means to dress confidently from beach to the boardroom.

Transforming Bullying into Motivation

Lizzie’s chosen career path as an author and motivational speaker began after she discovered a video of herself on YouTube called, “The World’s Ugliest Woman.” At just 17-years-old, Lizzie began researching how to transform her bullying into activism. In 2015 a documentary about her life was released called, A Brave Heart: The Lizzie Velasquez Story.

“I’ve had a really difficult life. But that’s okay,” she says in her Ted Talk. “I have an amazing support system around me… they taught me that even though I have this syndrome even though things are hard, I cannot let that define me.” In addition to her inability to gain weight, Lizzie is also blind in one eye and has a weakened immune system.

In June, Lizzie’s fourth book, Dare to Be Kind, will continue to spread her message of acceptance and tolerance. Through her story, she hopes to inspire others to find their own platform to move through life positively and with the right attitude.

You can watch Lizzie’s new show on the Fullscreen app. New episodes arrive on Tuesdays.
